Pericles (2015) - Director's Note
Traditionally, Pericles Prince of Tyre has flown well under the radar of Shakespearean scholars, theatre companies, and enthusiasts. No longer. With this performance, the Not-so- Royal Shakespeare Company is bringing Pericles to the Notre Dame campus for the first time ever, and we could not be more excited about this opportunity. Through the course of this production process, I have been privileged to watch every one of our actors pour their hearts and souls into the characters and story of Pericles. I am inexpressibly proud of the progress they have all made. The plot of Pericles revolves around an incredible journey around the Mediterranean, and while the weather in South Bend is regrettably dissimilar to that area of the world, I know that this production has been a remarkable journey for everyone involved. We cannot wait to share that journey with you.
I would like to extend special thanks to Casey Dinaro. Without your amazing and dedicated work, this show would never have happened, and I would have likely died in the attempt. I would also like to thanks all the members of our incredible production team, specifically, Liz Konicek, Caitlin Crosby, Jack Fazzino, Devon Gonzalez, Chris Ray, Tori Babcock, Kat Van Vleet, and everyone at Washington Hall. The work you have all done to organize, promote, costume, and give sound to this show is invaluable. Your talents and dedication never cease to amaze me. Additionally, I would like to thank our advisor, Scott Jackson, for the endless guidance and moral support that carried me through this process. Finally, I am grateful to you, the audience, for taking the time to see our show. I sincerely hope you enjoy it.
